At the Interpack international trade fair, taking place in Düsseldorf from 7 to 13 May 2026, Retinae will present the beta version of its flagship solution, Isoblister, equipped with artificial intelligence. Isoblister is a blister pack inspection system capable of checking compliance by identifying stray particles or other defects.

Retinae will be exhibiting at the CAM stand (Stand 15A02).

What, in practical terms, does this application of AI on the Isoblister involve?

“We decided to apply artificial intelligence to the format creation phase, as this is the process where human intervention is most required,” explains Luca Bertocchi, CEO of Retinae. “The Isoblister system will remain unchanged in terms of the algorithms used during the machine’s operational phase (runtime), but the AI will act as a genuine co-pilot for the operator in the preceding phase.”

What is the main benefit for machine users?

“The aim is to eliminate the difficulties associated with the need for specialised or trained operators. Today, companies often find themselves dealing with high staff turnover or operators with lower skill levels. With this new system, the operator will follow the same procedure as always, but the various parameters and choices that previously had to be set manually will be managed autonomously by the AI. The user will simply need to confirm the steps by clicking ‘Next’, making the creation of formats far more fluid and straightforward.”

Will this technology also be introduced on other machines in the Retinae range?

“Absolutely. We started with our flagship machine, the Isoblister, precisely because the results have been excellent, but the need to simplify the use of systems is common across our entire portfolio. We plan to gradually extend AI to all our products.”

Will those who already own an Isoblister be able to upgrade it with this system?

“No, at the moment it is a separate product. Initially, it will be sold as a distinct option and will not immediately replace the old model. We expect them to coexist for a certain period, after which, in all likelihood, the previous version will be phased out in favour of the AI-enabled one.”

What are the next events after Düsseldorf? Will you be presenting this model there as well?

“Yes, we will be at CPHI in Milan from 6 to 8 October at our stand (9 F78). On that occasion, we will present the system in its final stage, no longer in beta.”

When do you plan to bring the machine to market?

“The aim is to reach the market in the first quarter of 2027.”
